The Spaniard was the highest-ranked golfer in the world after winning three of his first six starts in 2023, but has since finished 39th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, retired from the Players Championship and taken 39th place in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. His biggest competition in the Masters 2023 realm could be Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, who are both strong contenders to win the Masters 2023. Scheffler is the 13-2 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest Masters 2023 odds, as he’s trying to be the first player to win back-to-back Masters since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002.
McIlroy, who is looking for his first Masters victory, is 15-2 and Rahm is 8-1 among the best golfers in the Masters 2023. SportsLine’s exclusive model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on the boil since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model has risen more than $8,600 on its best bets since the restart, nailing the tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted that Rahm would finish top of the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and American Express standings. The model also included JT Poston in his best bets to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet reached +5,500, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,100. At last year’s Masters, McClure’s pattern was all over Scheffler’s first major championship win before the weekend.

Rahm was two shots off the lead heading into the weekend, but the pattern still projected him as the winner.

Top predictions Masters 2023
A major surprise the model calls for the 2023 Masters: Cameron Smith, a six-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites for the 2023 Masters, stumbles and doesn’t even make the top 10. Smith is the defending champion of the Open and won an event in Australia late last year, but it’s been tough for him ever since. He finished 47th in his final event of 2022 before missing the cut in his first event of 2023, the only competitive golf he has played in the last three months.
Despite the success Smith had on the PGA Tour last season, it wasn’t his best year in terms of metrics, which could indicate he was on the lucky side of things. He ranked outside the top 100 for driving distance and driving accuracy percentage, while only ranking 136th on the tour in most hits gained on the starting stat (-.125) . With these difficulties, and with only one missed cut to show for his 2023 events, the model avoids Smith at his current 2023 Masters betting odds.
Another surprise: Jason Day, a 25-1 longshot, is making a good run for the title. He is a target for anyone looking for a huge salary. The 2015 PGA Championship winner is enjoying his best run since 2015, when he became the highest-ranked golfer in the world for 51 consecutive weeks. Day has finished in the top 20 in all of his starts in 2023 and is coming off an impressive fifth-place finish in Austin.
