Cable news networks and local television cleared their schedules to ensure continued coverage as Mr Trump’s motorcade made its way to Palm Beach International Airport, ahead of Trump Force One departing for destination of New York, where the ex-president is to be brought to justice in a Manhattan courtroom. However, Mr Trump’s wife, Melania, did not join the entourage.

Well-wishers lining the road said the Palm Beach Times that the timing of Mr. Trump’s impeachment during Holy Week was a biblical sign.

Mr Trump had claimed his indictment would unleash “death and destruction” on MAGA worshipers, but the mood along Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach was peaceful, Palm Beach Post reported.

Mr Trump’s Boeing 757 with his name engraved in gold letters on the side took off around 1pm ET, landing about two and a half hours later at New York’s La Guardia Airport.

Arrival in New York

Mr. Trump was met on the tarmac by dozens of Secret Service agents in limos, CBS News reported. He was then taken to Trump Towers – his high-rise building in midtown Manhattan.

Throughout Monday, journalists, supporters and demonstrators had gathered on 5th Avenue in anticipation of the arrival of the former president.

While the New York Times wrote that Mr Trump’s birthplace was “anxious” and “prepared” for his arrest, the mood on the ground told a different story.

The Independents Richard Hall joined the crowd and wrote that only a small crowd of Mr Trump supporters showed up to protest, including the Naked Cowboy, who would normally perform for tourists in Times Square.

Barricades had been set up around Trump Towers and NYPD officers were closely monitoring the proceedings. K9 police units were patrolling the area.

According to an order issued by New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan on Monday night, no video will be allowed to film Mr. Trump’s impeachment. Five photographers will be allowed to capture images when he first appears and must then leave the field.

The crowd outside Manhattan Criminal Court swelled throughout Tuesday morning as hundreds of reporters, protesters and counter-protesters were sorted into separate enclosures.

By mid-morning, reporters and cameramen far outnumbered protesters and counter-protesters.

Anti-Trump protesters with bells and whistles tried to drown out the sounds of pro-Trump supporters with megaphones.

Disgraced Republican Congressman George Santos showed up around 9:30 a.m. and was immediately swarmed by reporters.

Marjorie Taylor Greene arrived at the court around 10:30 a.m. to stage a “peaceful protest”.

Mr Trump is expected to face 36 charges stemming from silent payments he made to adult actress Stormy Daniels on his campaign trail in 2016.
